Magnetism Unit Study

The children have just completed a unit study on magnetism.  We all had a lot of fun with this one.  Instead of using textbooks, we learned by putting our own unit together using various resources.  Here's how we did it.

I Started by reading and creating a list of magnets and magnetism learning objectives.  During our science class, we performed experiments from Wonders of Magnets.  This publication was provided online free of charge through National Energy Education Development.  They read several books on magnets, which they found at our local library.  Our favorite was The Magic School Bus Chapter Book: Amazing Magnetism.  This book was loaded with lots of fun facts about magnets.  The reading level of this book is 570L at Lexile Framework for Reading. We love to use lapbooks to help with reading comprehension.  We were able to find a free Amazing Magnetism Lapbook online at Yee Shall Know.

Well there you have it.  A fun way for children to learn without textbooks and utilizing free resources available to us.  I hope you guys enjoy using them as much as we did.

Peace and blessings,
Dorcus
